Lumpkin girls win first; Camden continues streak at GHSA traditional wrestling championships

Lumpkin County hosted the GHSA team duals girls wrestling championships last month and finished atop the expanded Division II bracket to win the girls teams first state wrestling title.

And after a 92-point effort, the Indians earned the program’s second ever championship at the Centreplex in Macon Saturday.

Sisters Nora and Greta Garbuzovas each won championships in their respective weight classes – Nora in 135 pounds, Greta in 140 pounds – to lead the team to the championship. Lumpkin beat out Jefferson (72.5 points) and defending-champion Carrollton (71 points) in the victory.

In Class 6A, Camden County won the team’s 11th straight championship with a 303.5-point effort which beat out Buford (221.5) and Mill Creek (127.5). The Wildcats were led by individual titles from Ryder Wilder (190 pounds), Brock Weaver (157), Isaac Santos (120) and Bradley Patterson (113).

Creekview placed atop the Class 5A tournament to win the team’s second overall traditional wrestling title and first since 2020. Jackson Locke (215 pounds) led the Grizzlies with its only individual title.
