UPDATE — Jefferson wrestler Dominic Haines is showing improvement in his condition after being injured in the 144-pound match of the Class 3A championships at the Centreplex in Macon a little less than hours ago.
“Dominic is out of surgery and back in his recovery room,” Haines’ father Zach wrote in a public Facebook post. “As far as the surgery, everything went according to plan. They were able to get his spine aligned and put a cage around his spinal cord to take the pressure off. He has bruising and swelling on the cord and they’re hoping between the surgery, the meds and keeping his blood pressure elevated, that will subside in the next few days. He’s currently sedated and on a breathing tube to help keep everything as relaxed as possible to speed up the healing process. He woke up briefly and was trying to sit up. The boy is a fighter and I hope he keeps that spirit through this. The tests they did, shows he is reacting and has feeling from the chest up. The hope is he keeps regaining more and more as he heals and the swelling goes down. We want to thank you all for the prayers and well wishes. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING! This is going to be a long road for Dominic and I truly believe having an army behind him will be all the difference!”
