Woodstock blasts field at Etowah Invitational

The Woodstock girls track and field squad blasted past the field at the Etowah Invitational, finishing with 104 points to cruise to an easy win. Woodstock easily took both relays en route to the win. Maya Ramsey scored victories in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and Arielle Hunter won the 400-meter dash. Sprayberry’s Maya Marshall took both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, but Sprayberry would finish sixth. Pope secured 70 team points to edge past host Etowah. The Pope boys would also edge past host Etowah for the boys title. Pope took both relay events while also picking up Patrick Fleming’s win in the 1600-meter run. Sprayberry finished third on the strength of victories in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes. Etowah’s Ross Gudger beat out teammate Michael Perona in the 3200-meter run while Woodstock’s Kylon Drones took both meter events. Woodstock finished fourth. … Landmark Christian School hosted a meet Saturday and the host took the girls event and finished second to Clarkston in the boys category. Mount Pisgah and Greenforest Christian also took part in the meet. … Greenbrier welcomed in schools from across the state for a meet last Thursday. The hosts claimed both titles with Lakeside-Evans finishing second in the girls’ competition and Evans edging past Lakeside-Evans on the boys’ side. Spencer Bongiovi won the pole vault event for the boys and Dominique Brown won the high jump for Greenbrier. Greenbrier cruised to the win thanks to nine event victories. The Greenbrier girls won just one event, the pole vault, but still took the title thanks to incredible depth and countless top-three finishes. … Statesboro swept the rain-shortened Savannah State High School Invitational. The girls competition was halted after four events while the boys finished just three events. … Parkview hosted the 13th annual Whitley Freshmen Showcase last Thursday. The Panthers managed to hold off Archer to take the girls title while Stephenson beat out Mill Creek and Parkview in the boys competition. Jessica Moody won the girls 200- and 400-meter dashes while teammate Rachel Hurst won the 800-meter run. Haley Blanchard scored a win for Parkview in the 3200-meter run. Tasha Williams swept the shot put and discus throw to help Grayson to a third-place finish. Denzel Harper put Stephenson on his back late in the competition with wins in the 300-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump while Brandon Hines helped carry Stephenson early with a win in the 800-meter run and a top-three finish in the 400-meter run.
