Wolves win state softball title; football holds on against Blessed Trinity

The softball team claimed the Class 2A state championship by beating Calhoun 5-1 in eight innings. The team moved through the playoff schedule playing great defense. The Wolves only surrendered four runs in 10 postseason games en route to the championship. After losing their 1-0 lead in the seventh inning, the Wolves moved four runs across in the eighth to seal their second straight state title and a 34-2-1 record. The win also marked the champs’ 30th victory in a row. … The top-ranked football team had its closest call in two seasons against Blessed Trinity, but escaped with a 14-10 win on Oct. 24. Cody Getz scored both Buford touchdowns, the second coming with under a minute remaining in the game. The Wolves had a much more convincing win against Westminster to clinch the top seed in Region 6-AA on Halloween Night. Storm Johnson ran for 84 yards, as Buford won 29-7. Jess Simpson’s team also clinched the school’s eighth straight region championship. Buford will need one more victory against Greater Atlanta Christian this week to complete its third consecutive perfect regular season.
