Wolves return from Lonestar state with 42-21 victory

The football team traveled to Texas for the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series and won its opener against Timberview (Tex.) 42-21. Cody Getz, who broke the game open with a 35-yard punt return and two short touchdown runs, highlighted Buford’s scoring. Junior running back Storm Johnson added 147 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the win. The defending Class 2A state champs will play North Hall on Friday at Tom Riden Stadium. …The volleyball team had a solid week going 3-1 since Aug. 25. The Lady Wolves collected victories against East Hall and Jefferson before picking up a win in their regional opener against Herbon Christian Academy. The team has four matches in the upcoming week, including a rematch against Jefferson. … The softball team defeated Central Gwinnett 9-1 on Thursday, bringing their record to 5-2. Buford has outscored its opponents 30-5 over their last five games. The Lady Wolves will host three games as part of the Buford Invitational on Saturday before their regional opener on Tuesday against Avondale.
