Wolverines off to perfect start at varsity level

The Wolverines football program, in just its second year of existence and first year playing a varsity schedule, scored a huge 21-14 come-from-behind win over county rival North Forsyth last Friday. The Wolverines took the lead in the third quarter after a Colton Cloud 3-yard touchdown run. Ben Emert, a junior tailback who gained over 1,000 yards last year, scored twice and rushed for 157 yards. … Football head coach Frank Hepler has a long history of success coaching high school. Hepler is the former head man at Florida’s Plantation High, and compiled a record of 135-30 in 14 years there. Over that time, he led the program to 12 straight playoff berths and cracked the USA Today national top 20. … The softball team is one of a number of squads that has been participating in the very competitive Buford Invitational tournament. The team will play its last game in the event on Saturday. … The boys cross country team competed in the Jaguar Invitational on Aug. 23, finishing 10th out of 24 schools. Jeff Bagley was the team’s top performer at 20th in the field.
