Wolverines let late lead slip away, lose 13-10

The football team opened the season against Kell, who is led by new head coach Derek Cook. The Wolverines were up by four with two minutes left and had a chance to go up by seven had head coach Mike O’Brien decided to kick a short field goal instead of going for it on fourth down. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, which led to the Longhorns going 97 yards the other way and getting their first win of the year 13-10. Despite the loss, Carlos Davis had a strong game running the ball, as he carried the rock 16 times for 77 yards and scored the only touchdown for the Wolverines. They are off this week and will face McEachern on Sept. 12. … The softball team is not off to the start it was looking for, as Wolverines have a record of 2-5. New head coach Kourtney Dempsey will try to turn things around on Thursday, as they face Kennesaw Mountain. … The volleyball team has yet to win a match, but will look to turn things around on Sept. 11 when they face Sprayberry and McEachern.
