The football team battled No. 1 and Region 6-AAAA rival Tucker (4-0) hard last Friday, but fell 27-19. Thanks to turnovers and Tucker winning the field-position battle, the Tigers jumped out to a 27-6 halftime lead. “We let the first half get away from us,” said Wolverine head coach Jasper Jewell. Stephen Hill sparked a Wolverines comeback with a 72-yard punt return in the third quarter. Earlier he had a 97-yard kickoff return. “I was just trying to get the team back in it […] and get the defense pumped up,” Hill said. A swarming Wolverine defense caused some turnovers of their own and, after a Kendrick Ings 2-yard touchdown run, Miller Grove trailed by just eight. Ings was intercepted in the Tucker end zone on the game’s final play, however, ending the comeback. Miller Grove (1-2-1) next plays at Forsyth Central on Friday. … The softball team got a win last week, beating Tucker 14-10. It was a team win, as Brianna Charles had three bunt singles, Crystal Richmond had two doubles, and Nekia Rembert pitched a complete game.
