The 2024-2025 Georgia high school baseball season is around the corner with first pitch around a month out. Practice begins on January 31 and the first games can be played in early February.
Baseball season will be here in the blink of an eye and there are a few key storylines entering the season.
Firstly, returning champions.
Four different schools are coming off back-to-back state championships including Lowndes (7A), Harlem (3A), North Cobb Christian (2A) and Prince Avenue Christian (A-DI) are all looking for their third consecutive state championships. The Red Devils from Loganville have won three-straight Class 5A state championships dating back to 2022 and are seeking their fourth in a row and ninth baseball state championship in program history. Etowah (6A) and Starr’s Mill (4A) each won a second state championship in their schools respective history along with the Lanier County Bulldogs (A-DII) winning their first ever state championship.
Secondly, reclassification and the accompanying new-look regular seasons and playoffs.
With the new GHSA classifications going into effect this season, it’s setting up to be another enticing year of high school baseball around the state. The GHSA State Baseball Tournament will be here before we know it, with the first round scheduled for April 23 and the GHSA season ending with the championships, which begin May 19. The preseason rankings, which will be released the week prior to opening day in February, will help paint each classification’s picture and should highlight the newly formed rivalries following the reclass cycle.
