The Krossover Classic held at Archer High School last Saturday featured nationally ranked teams from across the country including six teams currently in the GHSA top ten. Class AAAAAA’s No. 1 Archer and No. 3 Norcross both were in action with the Lady Blue Devils knocking off Brentwood Academy (TN) 48-39 and the Lady Tigers falling to Riverdale (TN) 74-53, Riverdale being ranked No. 9 in the country. Archer retains their place atop AAAAAA even with the loss. Norcross battles lone undefeated, No. 2 Collins Hill on Tuesday. The Lady Blue Devils lost 57-54 in overtime on a buzzer beater in their last meeting.
Class AAAAA No. 1 Brunswick picked up another impressive win in Region 3, defeating No. 6 South Effingham 57-46 on the road. Southwest DeKalb jumps from No. 6 to No. 4 after thumping defending state champ No. 10 Stephenson 65-47 at Stephenson. The Lady Jaguars also lost at the Krossover Classic to Jeff Davis (AL) 56-46 and drop three spots. No. 7 Warner Robins jumps No. 8 Grovetown thanks to a 43-42 win over 4A No. 7 Veterans.
In AAAA, No. 1 Buford continued to roll and crushed Tift County for the second time this season, 61-30. No. 5 Mt. Zion-Jonesboro debuts in the top ten after winning 13-straight and drilling No. 6 Jonesboro 66-43. Earlier in the year the Lady Cardinals had beaten Mt. Zion 59-39. Griffin (14-4) slips all the way from No. 1 a few weeks ago to unranked after another loss, this time to Mt. Zion 55-52. No. 8 Redan and No. 10 Northwest Whitfield re-enter the poll after Heritage-Catoosa suffered a 64-49 loss to Gilmer.
AAA Dawson County’s fall from grace has happened abruptly, falling from undefeated at No. 2 all the way to No. 9 with losses to No. 6 East Hall 60-42 and shockingly to Chestatee 48-46. No. 2 Jackson-Atlanta could possibly be ranked No. 1 in almost every other classification after its 18-1 start and lone loss coming to 20-0 National Christian Academy (MD) early in the year, but No. 1 Morgan County’s resume is among the best in the state. No. 4 Beach continues its climb and used a buzzer beater to break No. 8 Johnson-Savannah’s heart last week.
No. 1 Wesleyan drilled Loganville 60-32 at the Krossover Classic. Model is now AA’s new No. 2 and have a perfect 19-0 record. Holy Innocents’ falls a spot to No. 3 after a hard fought 71-61 loss to Class A-Private No. 1 St. Francis at Krossover. No. 7 Vidalia slips three spots after dropping to Long County (14-6) 51-50. No. 10 Lovett replaces Fitzgerald, who lost to both Thomasville and No. 4 Pelham, the Lady Hornets drilling the Purple Hurricanes 75-30.
The only movement in 1A-Private is No.7 Mt. Paran swapping places with No. 8 Savannah Country Day. 1A-Public’s only change is Wilcox County entering the top ten after Telfair County fell to Wheeler County and Johnson County.
