No. 3 Norcross in Class AAAAAA is making waves. After winning just nine games last season at 9-17, the Blue Devils are now 19-4 after defeating No. 4 Collins Hill 1-0 and No. 7 Mountain View 7-5. Football quarterback Baron Radcliff leads the team in runs batted in from his corner outfield and first base position. Zack Walch and Patrick Hutton both have provided a spark from the plate as well. Graeme Stinson, a 6-5, 245-pound lefty committed to Duke, has anchored the pitching staff at 6-0 with a 1.99 ERA. Cooper, his sophomore brother, is a 6-4 righty with four wins. Elsewhere in the state, No. 10 Northview debuts following Harrison’s exit.
Class AAAAA has become a shuffle between teams trying to separate themselves behind No. 1 Allatoona who has distinguished itself as the team to beat. Northside-Columbus jumps from unranked to No. 6 after sweeping No. 7 Columbus. Starr’s Mill falls out of the top ten after being swept by McIntosh, but its No. 10 Union Grove who replaces the Panthers instead of the Chiefs while Ola, another Region 4 team, drops out as well.
No. 2 Buford is hot on No. 1 Locust Grove’s trail for the top spot in AAAA. The Wolves shellacked AAA’s No. 3 Westminster 10-4 this past week. Spalding no longer holds the No. 7 ranking after two straight losses. Coming in at No. 9 is West Laurens. It is the Raiders’ debut this season in the top ten.
From unranked all the way to No. 4 is Appling County in AAA. The Pirates from Baxley, Ga. have won nine-straight including a 1-0 shutout of No. 6 Pierce County. Appling is 16-1-1 in Region 1.
Once again Region 6 titans clashed as No. 1 Wesleyan took 2-of-3 from No. 3 Holy Innocents’. No. 2 GAC took its series with Lovett, 2-of-3 as well. No. 4 Bowdon is still rolling at 23-0 and continues to throttle opponents as they search for respect. Union County and Bacon County are replaced by No. 9 Bryan County and No. 10 Lamar County in the bottom of the poll in AA.
Tattnall Square Academy took a tumble in Class A after losing to First Presbyterian Day 3-2 and ELCA 3-2. The Trojans find themselves at No. 7 while Mt. Paran enjoys the biggest leap, moving up two spots to No. 4 after a 9-2 win over No. 5 Trion. No. 3 Schley still looks like the king of A-Public after a 6-3 win over No. 10 Taylor County. No. 9 Charlton County has won 16-straight as they creep up the rankings.
