In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Etowah improved to 18-1 and tallied its ninth-straight victory. The Eagles have risen to No. 4 in the latest MaxPreps National poll and will have a three-game series against Region 5 rival and No. 2 ranked Walton this week with a road game on Tuesday and a home double-header on Thursday. Walton is 17-3 and is riding a 5-game win-streak after sweeping Wheeler in three games with a 39-0 scoring advantage (15-0, 8-0, 14-0). Walton and Etowah are both 11-1 heading into the three-game series within Region 5 competition and this series will produce a new front-runner. No. 3 Parkview remains red-hot with a 6-0 Region 7 mark and 13-4 overall record. All four of Parkview’s losses this season have been decided by one run. No. 5 North Gwinnett improved to 16-1 and rides a 10-game win-streak. At No. 6, two-time defending state champion Lowndes is 13-5 with a five-game win-streak. North Paulding scored a much-needed sweep over Marietta and has won 4-straight to remain at No. 7. East Coweta moved ahead of Carrollton this week at No. 8. The Indians are 16-2 with an eight-game win-streak. Carrollton is 13-5 with 7-straight wins and these two teams will face on March 25, 26, 28 for a three-game series that will create a new front-runner in Region 2. At No. 10, Grayson has gone 14-2 since its 0-4 start and has improved to 10-2 in Region 4.
Class 5A No. 1 ranked Houston County improved its overall record to 16-3 and is 9-0 in Region 2 after sweeping Northside-Warner Robins, Veterans and Thomas County Central. No. 2 Pope is 15-3 overall and is also 9-0 in its Region (Region 6-5A) with sweeps over Sequoyah, River Ridge and Creekview. No. 3 Dunwoody has grown its win-streak to 17-straight after dropping its opener to St. Pius and has a huge series coming up this week against Woodward Academy—which shares a 12-0 Region 4 record with Dunwoody. No. 4 Loganville has won eight-straight games and is 5-0 in Region 8 with wins over Habersham Central and Apalachee since it took the series with Winder-Barrow 2-1 to move up in the poll. No. 7 Effingham County is 18-3 and sits above No. 9 Newnan and No. 10 South Paulding. South Paulding previously defeated Newnan 11-7, but Newnan has a 14-8 win over Woodward Academy to justify being one spot higher in the poll. This week’s matchup between Dunwoody and Woodward Academy is the series with the most potential to shake up the poll.
Class 4A No. 1 ranked Blessed Trinity swept Kell in three games and won its 12-straight game. No. 2 North Oconee improved to 14-4 and St. Pius replaced Kell at No. 3 after improving to 18-0. Kell slid all the way to No. 9 this week after falling to 12-6 and losing four-straight games. Allatoona remains No. 4 and sits at 15-3 with a seven-game win-streak and 8-1 region record. Ware County moved up to No. 6 and is 17-1. Central-Carroll also jumped to No. 7 this week and the Lions are 18-0. Starr’s Mill is No. 8 this week ahead of Kell and is 13-4 after opening the season 0-3. Wayne County did not shift this week and is 15-3 overall and 5-1 in Region 1 play.
Rockmart moved up to No. 2 in Class 2A and Franklin County moved up to No. 8. Jeff Davis shifted up to No. 2 in Class A-Division I and Baconton Charter moved up two spots to No. 2 in Class A-Division II. The Class A-3A Private poll shifted with Athens Christian moving all the way up to No. 3.
