Class AAAAAA No. 1 Walton topped Marist in three sets, and Harrison completed a sweep over East Coweta and Woodstock. Johns Creek moved from No. 6 to No. 3 after a big (25-20, 25-20) win over previously No. 3 ranked North Cobb. Johns Creek also beat Mill Creek in straight sets last week. Hillgrove drops to No. 10 after a pair of losses to Mt. Paran and River Ridge last Thursday.
In Class AAAAA McIntosh continues its hot start and swept Mundy’s Mill, Union Grove and Starr’s Mill last week. Starr’s Mill lost to Class AAAA No. 1 ranked Columbus over the weekend and remains at No. 3. After Pope won six straight matches, the Greyhounds lost six straight after facing some of the best programs in the state. Pope fell to South Forsyth, Blessed Trinity, Holy Innocents’, North Cobb, Johns Creek and Lassiter before seeing the win column again with a win over Walker. Northgate has beaten Whitewater twice on the season and the Wildcats fall out of the the top 5. Harris County topped Northgate earlier in the season, and the Tigers move up to No. 2.
In Class AAAA, Columbus beat a good Chattahoochee team and then fell to Woodward Academy last Tuesday. Marist fell to Walton in three straight sets, and Sandy Creek continues its struggles. The Patriots were swept by their four opponents on Aug 24, and fell to Newnan and East Coweta on Thursday. Veterans moves to No. 3 after a big win over Northgate. River Ridge had a huge Thursday as well, sweeping Allatoona, Hillgrove and Mt. Paran.
Previously unbeaten Blessed Trinity lost for the first time this weekend in a (25-23, 25-22) match with Sullivan South, TN. The Titans went 9-1 against the Tennessee teams over the weekend and did not drop a set in any of the nine wins. No. 1 ranked Blessed Trinity is now 24-1 on the season. St. Pius had a strong weekend and went 5-0 on Saturday with wins over Lassiter, Northview, Parkview, Peachtree Ridge and Mt. Paran. Woodward Academy topped Columbus, but fell 2-1 to Class AAAAAA Chattahoochee.
Class AA remains the same with Westminster at No. 1. The Wildcats lost 2-1 to Holy Innocents’ last week, but still hold key wins over Wesleyan and Class AAAA Columbus this season.
In Class A, Savannah Christian pulled off a five-match sweep on Saturday. The Raiders topped Glynn Academy, Camden County (twice), South Effingham and Centennial, Providence (FL). Holy Innocents’ fell to Paideia, and Mt. Paran jumped from No. 10 to No. 5 this week after topping McEachern, Hillgrove and Allatoona. The Eagles are 11-4 on the season.
