In Class AAAAAAA, top-ranked Colquitt County cruised to a 42-14 win over Trinity Catholic (MO). No. 2 North Gwinnett, No. 7 Archer, No. 9 Norcross and No. 10 Parkview observed bye weeks. Marietta fell 40-20 to Good Counsel (MD) and dropped from No. 6 to No. 8. Lowndes takes over No. 6 after opening the year with a big 62-0 win over Chamblee.
In Class AAAAAA, Lee County’s 35-3 victory over Dr. Phillips (Fla.) kept it at the top ahead of No. 2 Coffee. Harrison, which moved past Lassiter (48-0) and Hiram (37-20), climbed up to third from fifth. Creekview, Dalton and Richmond Hill enter the rankings following Northside-Warner Robins’ slide from third to seventh following its loss to Class AAA Peach County at Mercer in Macon.
No. 1 Rome had a bye this week and No. 2 Buford rolled past Jonesboro 58-7. Warner Robins jumped Carrollton for No. 3 and Whitewater exited the poll after falling 49-10 to Sandy Creek. Dutchdown replaces the Wildcats and debuts at No. 10.
Defending Class AAAA state champion Blessed Trinity defeated South Forysth 35-6 and retains its hold on No. 1. No. 2 Mary Persons scored an impressive 48-17 win over Jackson and No. 3 Cartersville and No. 4 Flowery Branch were off this week. Marist rounds out the top 5 and opened the year with a dominant 40-20 win over Lovett. Cairo and Ridgeland both fell to 0-2 and exited the poll. St. Pius slides in at No. 10 and Sandy Creek debuts at No. 9 after its 49-10 win over Whitewater to open the season. Troup improved to No. 7 after its big 32-0 win over Ridgeland.
It was a massive week for Class AAA teams as No. 2 Peach County moved past Northside-Warner Robins, Cedar Grove shined in the national spotlight against Alabama’s highly-touted Hewitt-Trussville on ESPN, and Pace Academy snapped ELCA’s 37-game winning streak and entered the rankings at sixth. GAC, following its loss to Westminster, dropped from third to seventh while the Wildcats climbed to fourth. Westside-Macon won a thrilling last-second game in overtime at Harris County to stay in the top-10 with the gritty win.
Top-ranked Hapeville Charter got its year underway with a 42-0 shutout of River Ridge. Heard County, earned a gritty 10-3 victory over LaGrange to remain second. Third-ranked Thomasville defeated Thomas County Central 39-7 to move to 2-0 on the year. Brooks County stayed in the No. 4 spot this week. Fifth-ranked Callaway opened its season with a 35-21 victory over Opelika (AL) to stay fifth.
Despite its loss to Pace Academy, Eagle’s Landing Christian remains at the top of Class A-Private. ELCA had a 16-3 lead at the half before Pace made its charge to win 17-16. Athens Academy, Prince Avenue, Mt. Paran and Calvary Day fill out the top-5 this week. The entire Class A-Public poll scored wins this week and the poll remains in tact.
