It was a make-up week for teams across the state of Georgia after Hurricane Helene affected many towns in the peach state resulting in cancellations. Despite only a few teams playing this week, several players made their mark and put on strong performances for their teams. Here is who stood out.
Worth County QB Lyndon Worthy - Worthy went 10-13 for 200 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-0 victory against Brantley County. Worthy hasn’t been talked about a lot, but the sophomore quarterback had a great regular season. He set career highs in completion percentage (64.2%), passing yards per game (244.8) and quarterback rating (116.7). He had nine games where he passed for more than 200 yards. His best game of the season came against Bacon County when he had more touchdown passes than incompletions. In that game, Worthy finished 24-27 for 381 yards and six touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback had a standout freshman year and followed it up with another great season and is proving he is one of the better quarterbacks in the 2027 class.
Ware County QB Luke Hooks – In a 48-41 loss to New Hampstead, Hooks had a great game. He was 15-21 for 231 yards and three touchdowns. Hooks has been productive this season for the Gators throwing for 1,460 yards and 18 touchdowns. His best game of the season came against defending state champion Perry. In the 31-21 loss, he threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns setting career-highs in yards and touchdowns in the valiant effort. It’s been the best season of his prep career and he has taken advantage of his opportunities. Despite the loss this past week, Hooks showed that he is not going down without a fight and you are going to need that especially with the playoffs starting this upcoming Friday.
Pierce County QB Caden McGatha - There is really no surprise here. McGatha has been doing this his entire career and came up big again to clinch a region title. He was 4-5 for 74 yards and three touchdowns through the air. On the ground, he rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns totaling six touchdowns on the evening. After winning the state championship last year, McGatha has the Bears in contention again in Class 2A.
Burke County RB Amerre Williams - Williams rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns. In the passing game, he had three catches for 90 yards. He helped Burke County win the Region 4-2A championship its first since 2019. Williams is averaging 116 yards per game on the ground. He’s provided the Burke County offense with some balance and is doing it with not a lot of touches. He has rushed for 1,158 yards and 22 touchdowns on 93 carries this season. He is averaging 12.5 yards per carry. He is explosive in the open field and is tough to bring down. In seven of the ten games played this year, Williams has 100 yards rushing. He makes the Bears dangerous in the playoffs.
Thomson RB Anthony Jeffery - Jeffery did all he could to lead his team to victory on Friday night against Burke County rushing for nearly 200 yards. He finished the game with 179 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. Friday marked the second consecutive game that Jeffery rushed for four touchdowns, and it was his third this season. His best game came in a 59-6 victory against Glenn Hills when he rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Jeffery has been productive this season rushing for 1,120 yards and 19 touchdowns and leading his team to a 7-3 record.
Brunswick TE Heze Kent - The four-star prospect has 591 yards receiving and seven touchdowns on 32 receptions this year and finished the night with five receptions for 91 yards while adding 26 rushing yards. His best game was against Lakeside-Evans where he finished with a season-high 131 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also has been valuable in the run game this year rushing for 186 yards and six touchdowns. Kent has led the Pirates to a 9-1 record and an undefeated region record. The Pirates have won three region titles in the past four years.
Greene County DB Ivan Porter - It was a big night for the senior defensive back who got the team going in a 28-14 victory against Warren County. He had an interception returned for a touchdown to give the Tigers their first points of the game. He caught another interception later in the game that halted Warren County’s momentum. Porter has 25 tackles this season and added his first interceptions of the year on Friday night. He was phenomenal in helping Greene County clinch a No. 2 seed in Region 8 Class A Division II.
