It was another great week of high school football in the state of Georgia. Several names stood out and had top performances for their teams helping lead them to victory. Here are some top performers from Week 11.
Carver Atlanta QB Montavious Banks- Carver-Atlanta pulled off another big win handing Lovett its second consecutive loss in a 47-17 win. Coming into the matchup Montavious Banks had thrown for 16 touchdowns and zero interceptions. On Friday against Lovett, Banks was 15-23 for 345 yards and four touchdowns. It was one of his best performances of the season, setting a season-high in yards and touchdowns. The Panthers have already tripled their wins from a season ago and a lot of it has to do with the improvement of Banks. He doesn’t turn over the football and when the big play is there he makes it. Carver-Atlanta will play for a region championship this Friday against Hapeville Charter.
Greene County QB Landon Garrettson- Garretson had a big night for Greene County throwing three touchdown passes in a win over Lake Oconee Academy. Each pass was over 30+ yards. It was his best performance of the season for Greene County. He has been having a great season as a first-year starter for the Tigers. Each game he has improved and looks more comfortable in the offense and the system. The Tigers are 7-1 this season and are in contention for a region championship. They will play a pivotal game against Lincoln County for a chance to be No. 1 Region 8-D2. If they do win a region title this season, it would be the first they have won since 2018.
Gainesville QB Kharim Hughley- If you want to talk about a player whose stock is rising, look no further than Hughley. What can I say? He is made for the big stage. After having a stellar performance on Peachtree Sports Network at the beginning of the season against Westlake, Hughley put together another impressive outing. Against Roswell, Hughley was 26-33 for 454 yards and six touchdowns. He made constant highlights by improvising and showing his ability to escape the pocket and throw off the run. The Red Elephants came up just short in the loss but Hughley did a good job on the final play of the game of giving his receiver a chance to win it, but he couldn’t quite get a foot in bounds. Hughley has shown he is not scared of the big stage and has big performances in big games. He is certainly making a name for himself and the future is bright at Gainesville with Hughley at the helm.
Brooks County RB Chris Cole- Cole is having one of the best seasons of his career and continued that effort Friday night. He rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns in a win against Charlton County. He now has three games where he has rushed for 200 yards or more in a game. So far this season he has rushed for 1,277 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is averaging 8.1 yards per carry and is averaging 160 yards per game. Cole has certainly taken advantage of his opportunities and made defenses pay.
Sequoyah RB Will Rajecki- Rajecki had another big outing finishing with 221 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in a win over Pope. On the ground, he rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns. He also had four catches for 118 yards and a touchdown. Rajecki is not just a threat in the running game but also can also make plays as a receiver. Rajecki is putting together another strong season and has surpassed his totals from his sophomore season. He has 31 catches for 506 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He is also closing in on his first 1,000-yard rushing season of his career.
Fannin County RB Carson Callihan- A player that is becoming a regular on this list having already made it three times this season. Callihan put together another big-time performance in a win against Christian Heritage. He set a career-high in rushing yards with 301 and finished with three touchdowns. It was the first time in his career that he surpassed the 300-yard mark. Every year in his career, he has improved his numbers seeing an uptick in rushing yards and touchdowns this season. The Rebels have a great 1-2 punch with Callihan and Lawson Sullivan that defenses have trouble slowing down. It has led Fannin County to a 9-0 record and a contender in Class A Div I.
Calhoun WR Justin Beasley- It was a big night on Friday for the junior wide receiver. In a win against Heritage, he had seven receptions for 100 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 14.28 yards per catch and gave the defense fits. Beasley has become a reliable target for true freshman QB Trace Hawkins. Each week he is becoming featured more and this past Friday showed what he is capable of with the ball in his hands. It was a great all-around effort for Calhoun that saw two players not named Hawkins throw touchdowns. RB Isaiah Nalls and Cross Land each contributed touchdown passes. After missing the playoffs for the first time since 1999, the Yellow Jackets are back in the postseason as region champions.
Douglas County EDGE Jordan Carter- Carter was all-around the ball on Friday night for Douglas County in a win over Chapel Hill. He finished with six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and two QB hurries. Carter has battled injuries this season but he hasn’t let that stop his production on the field when he is out there. He has two games where he has recorded two sacks in a game. This season he has 36 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks and two quarterback hurries. At the prep level, Carter is practically unblockable and is one of those rare players you see that can take over a game. The Tigers have a huge region championship game coming up against Carrollton at home. One to watch will be Carter in that game to see if he can affect the often cool and composed USC commit Julian Lewis.
Whitewater EDGE Brayden Foster- Foster is another player who is having a breakout season. He leads his team in tackles (58), tackles for loss (14) and sacks (9). He added another stellar performance on Friday night finishing with five tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks, and also a catch for 26 yards. He has been the best player on defense for the Wildcats this season and they are on the brink of clinching a playoff spot this week if they can defeat Mary Persons.
North Cobb Christian LB Spears Martin- He had eight solo tackles and two tackles for loss in a win over Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. Martin has recorded eight tackles in three consecutive games. He is the leading tackler for the Eagles this season with 61. He also has 14 tackles for loss, three QB hurries, two forced fumbles, and two pass deflections. The Eagles have a defense that is filled with great prospects in Ray Dixon and Beedjy Guerrier but Martin is an underrated guy who has a nose for the football and constantly makes plays. He has a high football IQ and is having one of the best seasons of his career. His ability on the football field doesn’t get talked about enough.
