In Class 6A, No. 1 ranked Grayson survived a 68-66 victory over Class A-3A Private No. 1 ranked Holy Innocents’ over the weekend and No. 2 Wheeler made a statement with an 82-52 victory over former Class 5A No. 1 ranked Milton. That loss pushed Milton down to No. 2 in Class 5A this week and Woodward Academy ascended to No. 1 after scoring victories over Shiloh (59-44) and Lakeside-DeKalb (66-47) to improve to 17-3. Newton defeated Class 5A No. 3 Tri-Cities 69-65 at the MLK Dream Challenge last Monday and moved up to No. 4 this week. Walton slid two spots to No. 6 after falling at home 57-56 to new No. 5 ranked Etowah. Westlake had a strong week with wins over Spencer, Chapel Hill and East Coweta and replaced Hillgrove at No. 10 after the Hawks suffered a 67-43 loss to No. 3 McEachern at the Nike Elite Showcase and ultimately dropped three of their last four outings.
In Class 5A, Houston County debuts at No. 9 and has won 10-straight—including a 50-48 win over No. 10 Lee County back on Jan. 14. Houston County is 7-0 in Region 2 play and will travel to Lee County on Tuesday for a top 10 matchup. Tucker moved up to No. 7 in Class 4A and the Class 3A poll saw two minor shifts. No. 2 Cross Creek defeated No. 9 ranked Westside-Augusta 67-59 to sweep the regular season series. Sandy Creek’s loss to Mays and Douglass’ 61-60 loss to Riverdale was not enough to shift the polls. Westside-Augusta moved up to No. 8 and Windsor Forest fell to No. 9 after an 84-58 loss to Class 4A No. 10 Maynard Jackson.
In Class 2A, Laney moved up to No. 5 this week and improved to 15-4 on the season. Temple ascended to No. 3 in Class A Div. I from its previous spot at No. 4 and Walker made a huge climb from No. 9 to No. 5 in the Class A-3A poll after the Wolverines improved to 17-3 and achieved three victories against ranked opponents since last week’s rankings.
