Week 10 Girls Soccer Rankings

The playoffs begin on Tuesday for girls Classes AAAAAAA-AAAAA and on Thursday for Classes AAAA-A. In the final week of the regular season, few things changed across the state.

In Class AAAAAAA, Lassiter takes its No. 1 ranking into the first round of the playoffs following a 3-2 victory over Hillgrove on April 20. Parkview is again a close second as it is riding a streak of six consecutive shutouts capped off by a 5-0 victory over Etowah on April 18. Milton is third this week with Peachtree Ridge and Mill Creek rounding out the top five.

Johns Creek has yet to drop a game this season but has three ties to its record. Since its latest tie on April 10 to Roswell (1-1), Johns Creek has compiled three victories over Northview, Centennial and Pope to close its season with the No. 1 ranking in AAAAAA. Harrison, at No. 2 this week, moved up from No. 3 last week following Creekview’s fall from second to fourth. Dacula is third this week, and Pope rounds out the top five at fifth.

Top-ranked McIntosh is poised for a repeat as the Lady Chiefs closed their season with a 2-1 victory over Oak Mountain (Ala.) on April 20. Decatur is second with Flowery Branch following close behind. Veterans and Whitewater round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Blessed Trinity and Marist are again the two top teams in the class as the regular season gives way to the playoffs. Blessed Trinity is coming off a 2-0 victory over Chattahoochee on April 19, which capped off a streak of five consecutive shutouts. Marist is second again this week and a new No. 3, Spalding, climbed up following St. Pius’s slide to fourth. Northside-Columbus rounds out the top five.

Westminster claims the No. 1 ranking on both the boys and the girls side of Class AAA. Last season, the Wildcats, boys and girls, took the state title, and this season could produce the same results. The Lady Wildcats had not dropped a game to a team from Georgia all season before losing to Decatur on April 20, 2-1. No. 2 Lovett is coming of a 2-1 loss to top-ranked Westminster as it enters the playoffs.

In Class AA, defending champion St. Vincent’s is holding off state runner-up East Laurens again this week. If the playoffs go anything like last season’s, look for a rematch at the top. Class A is led by Athens Academy with First Presbyterian Day at the No. 2 spot.
