The football team took it on the chin Friday night in a 20-0 home loss to the Washington Bulldogs. Penalties and turnovers plagued the team for much of the night and made it that much tougher to score on a fired up Bulldog defense. Adding to that uphill climb was a dynamic 73-yard punt return by the amazingly talented Branden Smith, who is one of the most highly sought-after seniors in Georgia. The Grey Knights hung tough for a half behind a stout defensive performance. Unfortunately for the Knights, turnovers would be their undoing in the second half. Washington defender Samuel Jones sacked Knights quarterback Quadal Forte and caused Forte to fumble on the Grady 30-yard line. Mario Bibbs returned the loose ball for a touchdown. The fumble return for seven were the only points Washington would need, as Grady would fail to get on the scoreboard. … The boys and girls cross country squads will compete in the Aubrae Gunderson Invite on Saturday in Conyers. … The volleyball team dropped matches to St. Pius and Riverwood on Sept. 16.
