Warriors fall at Marietta despite efforts of Johnson, Blaylock

The football team traveled to Marietta on Friday, falling short 14-9. In the second quarter, Marietta’s Chris Tanzy’s touchdown pass to Caleb Cox left Cherokee down 7-3 at halftime. Chrys Johnson, a key player for Cherokee, had a great game with 13 rushes for 94 yards. Matt Blaylock also had a solid performance, which included a 7-yard rushing touchdown for the final score. The Warriors head to Etowah this Friday. … The softball team lost to East Paulding 1-0 but rebounded to beat Woodstock 3-0 two days later. The Warriors also gained Buffalo’s Southwest Cafe as its new sponsor. … The volleyball team had a big weekend at the Georgia Challenge. The Lady Warriors lost to Creekview 2-0 and to Walton 2-0 but turned around and defeated Rockmart 2-1, bouncing back after dropping the first game. … In the Berry Invitational, the cross country team’s top runner Travis Pope led the team with a 45th-place finish with a time of 17:33. The team’s next race will be at the Mill Run on Sept. 27 at Chapel Hill.
