Before Wednesday night’s contest, Wheeler had won nine straight against Walton and had dominated the Raiders on the hardwood for close to a decade.
The loss for Wheeler was its first regional loss in two years for the Wildcats. They had an undefeated 10-0 regional record last season. With the loss to Walton this drops Wheeler to 2-1 on the season in regional play.
The Wildcats are coming off of a regional finals appearance last season, where they look to be at, at the end of this season but with a different result. The Raiders from Walton are threatening to make it instead, posting a 15-3 overall-record and are 3-0 in the region so far through mid-January.
The Walton boys basketball team finished 19-12 last season but have their sights set on making the regional this season.
Both Walton and Wheeler will be back in action Friday, January 19, as the home teams. The Raiders will host North Cobb while the Wildcats will look to get back in the win column against Kennesaw Mountain.
