Vikings dig early hole with special-teams miscue, lose 33-6

It was a tough first two games for first-year Vikings head coach Jeff Joiner, as the team suffered blowout losses to Tucker and Columbia . Last Friday, things got even tougher for the Vikings after a 33-6 loss to North Springs, a team many picked to finish behind LHS in Region 6-AAAA. It took the Spartans just 30 seconds to get on the board after they returned the opening kickoff to the Viking 13-yard line and then scored on the first play from scrimmage. The Spartans never looked back, leading 20-0 at the half before the Vikings got on the board in the fourth quarter. Southwest DeKalb awaits in Week 3. The Panthers are 2-1 on the season and 1-0 in region play. … Freshman sensation Meaghan Wetterhall led the way for the Lady Vikings Cross Country Team at the Marist Double Dip Invitational, finishing in 20:19 . The team finished sixth overall. Boys cross country finished fifth in the classification with a total of 148 points. John Ewing finished 18th overall with a time of 18:07 .
