After a 40-year television and radio sportscasting career, Bob Neal will be giving the community an opportunity to gather years of knowledge and insight into sports media. He will be giving an Introduction to Sports Casting seminar at the YourACT Studios in Peachtree Corners on April 22nd from 6:30-9:00 p.m.
The seminar will discuss how to begin a career in the sports industry and how choose from numerous specialties within the industry, including production, journalism, talent and all occupations in between. It will also include a segment of how the sports casting occupation has evolved from a greater on-air television, radio and mass media presence to a more digitally driven enterprise. Neal’s goal for the seminar is to use his own experiences and knowledge to teach all age groups from high school juniors and seniors to college students and adults an overview of the sports industry, how to begin a career in sports media and what it means to be a sports caster in today’s growing sports market.
Throughout his career, Neal has done everything from the national to local levels. He has been a sportscaster for Turner Broadcasting on its national NBA TV, TNT and TBS for telecasts for more than 20 years. He continues to make guest appearances as an analyst on NBA TV. The sports’ veteran’s extensive resume includes play-by-play work for the NBA and college football on NBC, in addition to the multiple PGA Tour events, NCAA football, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks and World Cup soccer. Neal was the radio voice of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons from 1975-1981 and then from 1995-1997 and news and sports director of WXIA-TV in Atlanta. Currently, he teaches sports journalism through a variety of outlets including and is the anchor on “Play To Win” NFL and college football show on Fox 5 in Atlanta.
