Veteran Lady Eagles volleyball team win five in a row

The football team was off last week because it took part in the Kell Classic on Aug. 23. The team deserved the break, however, as the Eagles came up with a huge win over Starr’s Mill 47-24. Tailback Ryan Boykin deserves a rest as well after rushing for 277 yards and four touchdowns. Etowah will look to carry that momentum as they come back home to take on McEachern on Friday. … The softball team is off to a good start to its season, as the Lady Eagles have a 6-3 record at press time. This is a good sign for a team with mostly juniors. With an 18-11 record last year, they will look to better that record and go deeper into the playoffs. They will face Lassiter on Wednesday and Harrison on Thursday. … The volleyball team is also off to a hot start, having won their last five matches at press time. Unlike the softball team, they have a solid group of seniors and will try to lead the Lady Eagles to a state title. They face South Paulding, South Cobb and Hillgrove on Thursday.
