The final day of the Brent Key/Corky Kell + Dave Hunter 7-on-7 tournament brought together the best teams in the state to compete across three locations on Georgia Tech’s campus — Rose Bowl, Brock Indoor and historic Bobby Dodd Stadium. And in the end, a game-winning stop proved the key for River Ridge in its 33-24 championship victory over Roswell.
“Anytime you can have any form of success as a football team offseason, during the season, it’s just a building block to hang your hat on,” said River Ridge head coach Michael Collins.
The Knights went ahead on a long touchdown pass from Ethan Spector to Grant Hollier with 36 seconds left and then pieced together a defensive stop to secure the victory against a driving Roswell. The Hornets drove to the three-yard line and were sacked before the River Ridge defense forced two incompletions to secure the victory.
“It’s a building block to build on during off season workouts and it gives you something positive,” Collins said. “These guys have been together for a long time and I feel like things are coming together. I hope this is a sign of things to come.”
