The Georgia Bulldogs finished second in the SEC in women’s, men’s and all-around athletics for the 2011-2012 school year in the Halifax Media All-Sports competition. Florida finished first in all three areas while LSU came in third overall and in men’s, with Tennessee finishing third in women’s competition.
It is the eighth time in the past 12 years that UGA has finished runner-up. The Bulldogs have won the competition once. The rankings are based on regular season finishes in the conference standings. Therefore, national polls and finishes in tournaments are not factored in.
Factoring into the Bulldogs’ high finish was the SEC Eastern Division title in football, women’s swimming SEC title, second place in men’s tennis and third-place finishes in women’s basketball, women’s tennis, men’s swimming and diving, gymnastics, men’s cross country and men’s indoor and outdoor track and field.
This is the first season Halifax has sponsored the award. Previously, the New York Times sponsored the SEC all-sports trophy.

Walton offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow committed to Georgia today. The interior O-lineman was nicknamed “The Finisher” last summer due to his nasty approach to blocking during camps. Kublanow is the Bulldogs’ 17th verbal commitment for the 2013 recruiting class. He chose UGA over offers from several other major programs such as Florida, FSU, Georgia Tech, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, South Carolina, Southern California and Tennessee.
Georgia’s gymnastics program has hired Danna Durante from Cal to replace Jay Clarke, who resigned under pressure on May 4. Durante was coach of the Bears for one season after being an assistant at Nebraska for nine years. The Tulsa native was an All-Pac-10 performer at Arizona State, where she graduated in 1995.
