Football team defeats Chamblee, has huge matchup with SWD looming

The football team beat region rival Chamblee 20-13 on Oct. 17. Drayton Allen-Calhoun, Tucker’s senior do-it-all running back, was up to his old tricks in scoring on a 60-yard pass play and a 70-yard run. “Great game,” said head coach Franklin Stephens. “I thought the kids put forth a tremendous effort and found a way to win the football game.” The Tigers next took their playoff hopes into a region showdown with Stone Mountain. “We win, we’re in,” said Stephens prior to the game. His words rang true, as Tucker cruised to a 37-6 triumph, clinching a postseason berth. Next up for the Tigers is Southwest DeKalb (7-1, 6-1), which is coming off its first loss of the season to Marist. … Both the volleyball team and the softball team saw their seasons end at the hands of Marist in Area 6-AAAA tournament play. … The boys cross country team finished fourth out of 19 teams at the DeKalb County Championships on Oct. 14. Seniors Bsrat Gide and Nolan Schnepf both placed in the individual top 10 with times of 17:36 and 17:41, respectively.
