Defending champion Lovett fell out of the AA poll after a whitewashing by GAC last week. After that win, however, GAC then lost games to Southwest DeKalb Saturday, Carver-Montgomery Monday, a game in which the Spartans ran into serious foul trouble almost immediately in the road contest, and finally Southwest Atlanta Christian Tuesday. The Spartans fell to No. 5 in the poll. While three losses in a few days normally would cause a drastic fall, we took into account the quality of the losses and the travel involved.
In Class 6A, Douglas County and Hillgrove fell out of the poll after recent losses while Langston Hughes debuted and defending state champion McEachern returned to the poll at No. 9. Parkview is now No. 2 and is making serious noise to be considered for No. 1. With a relatively weak region schedule in front of the Panthers, then the region tourney, Parkview looks like it will enter the state playoffs undefeated.
Class 5A saw some movement at the top this week as Tucker upset Stephenson 46-45 Tuesday night to take over the No. 1 spot. Also, Osborne and Creekview swapped spots as the Grizzlies beat the Cardinals Friday.
A recent collapse by Chamblee caused the Bulldogs to fall out of the Class 4A poll. Chamblee has lost six of nine since the new year. Mary Persons entered the poll at No. 10.
In Class AAA, the only changes were North Oconee and Chapel Hill replacing Banks County and Woodward Academy at the bottom of the poll.
