Trickery and rushing attack pace Comet victory

The football team beat Central Gwinnett 28-3 on Sept. 26. Michael Polascik rushed for two scores while completing 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and one passing score. Aaron Wimberly paced the ground attack with 101 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown on a fake punt in the first half. Last Friday, the team faced Dacula and, despite Wimberly again leading the ground attack, Polascik and the Comets fell 20-16. The Comet defense allowed Dacula to march down the field, twice picking up fourth-down conversions to steal the game with 35 seconds left. The Comets’ next game is at Parkview on Oct. 17. … The volleyball team captured its first Region 8-AAAAA win of the year when the Lady Comets traveled to Berkmar and walked out with 2-0 sweep (26-24, 25-20). The team, however, was swept by Parkview earlier last week … The softball team ended the season on a four-game losing streak, following a 3-3 tie against Pike County. The team’s last win was a 5-1 region win over Central Gwinnett on Sept. 9. In the Region 8-AAAAA Tournament, the team fell 9-3 to Grayson.
