The Cobb County Track and Field Championships took place this past Saturday and will conclude on Monday in Powder Springs. So far, the Marietta boys and girls teams are looking to be the favorites to win both titles.
The girls ended the day with 80 points, which was 51 points more than second-place Walton. The Lady Blue Devils won the 4×800 meter relay and
Mary Jeanne Assinzo came in second place in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:14. Elizabeth Hartley won the high jump and the pole vault while
Tatiyana Rayford came on fourth place in the long jump. Nia Seldon and
Janai Burton came in third and fourth place in the shot put, respectively.
For the boys, the Blue Devils are six points behind first-place Harrison. They came in second in the 4×800 meter relay, just falling one second short to first place Walton. Kirvonte Benson won the long jump and Brian Marshall finished in the Top 10 in the Discus throw.
Over at Holy Innocents’, the Golden Bear Relays were on Saturday and both Loganville teams came away with first-place finishes.
The girls scored 104 points and they finished second in the 4×100 meter relays and finished third in the 4×1600 meter relays. They came away with a win in the 800-meter sprint medley relays and Ashley Devert won the individual title for triple jump, which was the only individual first-place finish for Red Devils.
The boys finished with 82 points and they were led by Michael Elder who finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. His teammate, Xavier Waters, came in fifth place and Derek Henry came in 10th. Josh Laughlin finished first in the discus throw while Marquis Leslie and Genesis Oji came in second and third place in the high jump, respectively.
