Girls Lacrosse season is getting into some marquee matchups as we hit the middle of the season and plenty of teams will be looking to make their mark and show they are contenders this year. Let’s take a look at some can’t miss matchups this upcoming week.
North Gwinnett vs Johns Creek- Johns Creek has followed up an impressive start to their 2024 campaign with an even better one in 2025. The Lady Gladiators are off to an 11-1
They’ve beaten out-of-state Wando (SC) Bishop England (SC), Lambert, Pope, and Chattahoochee as notable competition this year. Johns Creek is one of the better offenses in the state and has already crossed the 20-goal mark three times this season.
North Gwinnett has been a pleasant surprise this season and is off to an 8-1 start. The Lady Bulldogs have been dominating their region with an impressive 5-0 record thus far. A notable win this season came against Buford who they held to just one goal in a dominating 18-1 victory. They have a chance to be a dangerous team in the postseason and will face a staunch test over their next few games against Johns Creek, Cambridge, Dacula, Lambert, and Milton.
St. Pius X vs Blessed Trinity- St. Pius X has been a surprising team this season and is off to a 9-2 start. It is one of their best starts since the 2016-2017 season when St. Pius X finished 14-5. The Lady Golden Lions have quality wins over Decatur and Lovett this season. They have crossed double figures in every game they have played except against the aforementioned Lovett. The Lady Golden Lions attacking and midfield play has been a reason they are right in the thick of it this season in Division 1.
Blessed Trinity has taken their lumps this season but you have to give credit to their head Christy Sheahan for scheduling one of the tougher schedules you will see. In the end the Lady Titans will be better for it after playing teams like South Forsyth, Walton, Milton, West Forsyth, Lassiter, Pope, and Cambridge. In those games, the Lady Titans went 3-5 but played all contenders for a state championship this season. Blessed Trinity is led by two elite D1 prospects Jordan Smith and Rylie Smith both committed to play at Butler.
Cambridge vs North Gwinnett- Cambridge is becoming one of the better-known programs in the state especially with their play in the last few seasons. They won a state championship for the first time in program history after knocking off Blessed Trinity in 2024. This year they handed Milton their first in-state loss since the 2021-2022 season. They also have notable wins against Lambert, Charlotte Latin (NC), Blessed Trinity, Lake Highland Prep (FL) and Milton. They have an elite roster in the 2025 and 2026 classes. Three girls are already committed to play at the D1 level defender Gabriella Johnson (Florida), midfielder Logan Collen (South Florida) and Kasey Dwyer (Penn State).
Yes, North Gwinnett has a strenuous schedule over the next five games and will now have to take on the defending champions in a non-region battle. A really good game to see where the Lady Bulldogs measure up against the elite in Georgia girls high school lacrosse. Cambridge is coming off one of their best wins of the season and has been a tough team to beat. Who will come out on top in a can’t miss matchup on Friday night?
Around the Class Boys-. A top matchup of the year will be this Wednesday when No. 1 Roswell and No. 2 Lassiter face off in a battle for supremacy. Both will be jocking to prove who is elite in Division 2. Lassiter will face its toughest battle of the season in what could be a state championship preview. No. 4 Mill Creek will also have a good chance to prove itself this week with top matchups against Wesleyan and Buford.
Around the Class Girls- No. 1 Milton suffered its first loss of the season in a highly competitive game against Cambridge that saw the Lady Eagles fall 8-7. It’s the Lady Eagles first in-state loss since 2021-2022. No. 4 Cherokee suffered its first loss of the season to Walton this past week who is off to an impressive 9-0 start. No. 8 St. Pius X makes its debut in the Score Atlanta poll for the first time this season.
