Titans take early lead, but falter late, lose 35-9

It was a hot start for the football team on Friday, as new head coach Jim Showfety was smiling early. That smile disappeared quickly, however, as Northview gave up an early lead and lost to Centennial 35-9. Showfety could not have asked for a better start to his Titan career, as the team marched down the field, going 73 yards on their first procession and capping it off with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Sid Harrelson to Brock Sanders. However, such warm feelings vanished on the next two special-teams plays, which turned momentum in the Knights’ favor. First, Centennial blocked the PAT and followed that up with a kickoff return for a touchdown, giving the Knights a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. This Friday, the team hosts Marietta at 7:30 p.m. … After an early-season loss to an out-of-state opponent, the volleyball team has run through their scheduled undefeated and without dropping a single set. The girls moved to 7-1 with wins over Chattahoochee, Greater Atlanta Christian and Central Gwinnett, and their first region match comes on Tuesday at Roswell at 5 p.m.
