Peachtree Ridge athletics director Bill Holleman announced his impending retirement Wednesday. His resignation will take effect June 1. Holleman has been the only AD since the school opened in 2003 and was also the Lions’ soccer coach for seven seasons. Currently, Holleman is the girls soccer head coach. Prior to coming to the Ridge, Holleman coached soccer at Shiloh, where he won a state title in 2003. Holleman has coached for 39 years, compiling a record of 621-192-43, and has been named a national coach of the year twice in soccer. In his tenure at the Gwinnett County school, Holleman’s program has won 10 state titles in six sports. The Lions have seen success throughout the athletics program under Holleman, finishing in the top 10 of the Regions Directors Cup the past five years.
Class AAAA boys No. 1 Lambert beat defending state champion Chattahoochee 3-0 behind goals by B.K. Kinteh and Trexler Bennett (rankings per eurosport).
In girls soccer, No. 3 Pope defeated East Paulding 5-1. It was the first goal the Lady Greyhounds (11-0) have given up all season. Jessie Sexton scored three goals for Pope.
Greenbrier and Aquinas traded sweeps in tennis Tuesday with the Fighting Irish boys winning and the girls getting swept. The Lady Wolfpack has lost just one match all season, and has been led by Blair LeSure at No. 1 singles. Meanwhile, Aquinas is unbeaten in boys tennis. Denton Boone has been sensational at No. 1 singles.
