Thrashers prospects to train in Lake Placid

With a month remaining until training camp, five Thrashers prospects will be hitting the ice again for some instruction, this time at the international level. John Albert, Zach Bogosian, Nicklas Lasu, Niclas Lucenius and Vinny Saponari will each travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., to receive training as a part of the Junior Training Camp. The camp is designed to prepare Under-20 teams for the Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship that will happen in December.

The camp will consist of clinics, practices and a combined eight international games for four separate squads. The four squads will represent Sweden, Finland and two split squads representing the USA. Bogosian, Albert and Saponari will each be a part of Team USA, Lasu will represent Team Sweden, and Lucenius will be a member of the Finnish team.

While each member invited is a candidate to make the Under-20 team for their respective country, don’t expect Bogosian to be a part of the final U.S. team, as he will most likely be in Atlanta playing for the Thrashers come December.

Not only will the players have the experience of training with the best talent the world’s talent pool has to offer, they will undoubtedly cherish the moment as they train at the site of the U.S.’s greatest and possibly the most historic hockey moment. The international contests will take place in the same rink where Herb Brooks led U.S.A. Hockey to a gold medal in the 1980 Olympics.

Games begin on Aug. 5, so check back here for updates.
