Thrashers blow out Predators

In what could be looked at as the team’s turnaround point in the season, the Thrashers ran away from the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, 7-2.

The recently acquired Rich Peverley recorded three assists and earned the game’s second star against his former team in the five-goal rout.

Not only was the new guy getting on the scoreboard but the faces that have led Atlanta all season were also doing damage. Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 19th goal of the season, his second consecutive game with a goal and his eighth goal in his last nine games. Also scoring a goal was Brian Little whose 21 goals still lead the team.

Atlanta built a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, scoring on four of its first six shots. Nashville was forced to replace its starter, Dan Ellis, after allowing three goals in just four shots. On the other side, Kari Lehtonen earned his second consecutive win, stopping 31 shots for the victory.

The win was Atlanta’s second in a row, an accomplishment that hadn’t been reached since a five-game winning streak in early November.

The Thrashers play again at home on Tuesday against Montreal before finishing pre-All Star Game play in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
