The continuous growth of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame

While sports fans will have plenty to keep their eyes on this weekend with great sporting events from college football to the World Series, one of the major events going on this weekend in Atlanta is the 2024 Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame Ceremony at the College Football Hall of Fame.

This weekend, the third class of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame will see their hard work and dedication pay off as they will forever be remembered as a part of the 2024 Georgia High School Hall of Fame Class.

“We’re honoring great high school football players,” said Matt Stewart, a Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame Board Member and an emcee of the event. “As I.J. had this vision to do this Hall of Fame, it was a great vision and there are Hall of Fames that recognize coaches and a lot of this but not the great players of high school football in the state of Georgia were being recognized. What makes it special is that we are recognizing all of these high school football players and honoring over 100 years of high school football in the state of Georgia.”

Stewart has been one of the emcees for the ceremony since it was created in 2022.

This year, the 30 inductees have had careers ranging from all over. Whether they played at a prestigious college football program or made it to the NFL, one thing these players will all have in common now is that they are members of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame.

Though a lot of this year’s inductees have been previously honored in former teams hall of fames and other variations of the ceremony, the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame connects each inductee and has a special meaning to the players due to how the Hall recognizes their upbringing and honors them for their achievements before they made it to the next level.

“The committee and the board have done a really good job of investigating and recognizing people that had been forgotten, not because they aren’t important but because so much time has passed,” Stewart added.

With more and more players from Georgia high schools inducted into the Hall every year, it only continues to grow. In the short three years that the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame has existed, it has already grown exponentially, reaching over 100 members with multiple Pro Football and College Football Hall of Famers.

“It just keeps gaining momentum and people know about it,” said Stewart. “With anything when you first start out, one of the biggest challenges and hurdles is to get the word out. Each year, more and more people are aware of it and it becomes a bigger event because of that and it will only continue to progress and the great thing about the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame is that you’re not going to run out of a pool of qualified and deserving inductees.”

Year by year the event continues to gain awareness and has progressed into a major ceremony honoring the inductees and celebrating their time playing Georgia high school football.
