Terrone Owens fills in vacant head coach position; loses opener

Less than a week before the football team’s first game of the season, head coach Reggie Perry resigned from his position and headed to Stephenson to become the new athletic director and assistant principal. Meadowcreek athletic director Jason Dopson worked hard to quickly find a coach who would be able to provide a sense of continuity for the athletes in his program. He tapped assistant Terrone Owens for the job. Owens is entering his fourth year on the Mustangs’ staff and has a good rapport with the players. He inherits a team that lost 42 consecutive contests coming into this season, but is the most experienced Mustang squad in years. His team started the 2008 season with a road trip to Luella, where they fell to the Lions 40-14. They will try to snap the streak Friday in their home opener against Duluth at 7:30 p.m. … The volleyball team’s next match is at Darlington on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. … The softball team will take a road trip to face off against the McNair Mustangs at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
