It is evident that the preseason No. 6 Tucker Tigers have the talent to strive for a state title in 2013 and head coach Bryan Lamar is looking forward to showcasing his team in their scrimmage on Aug. 16 at Marist.
“We have a really talented team and we have a lot of experience heading back onto the field,” said Lamar. “I am excited to see how well we perform and put everything we have worked hard for into play.”
The Tigers lost two regular season games last year, to region-rivals M.L. King and Stephenson. Tucker has stayed true to tradition and kept the same strength and conditioning program and spring training. This consistent discipline is aimed to produce the elite conditioning needed to take the top seat in region 6-AAAAA this season.
“We do what we do…we have a system that we have had in place for several years such as strength and conditioning and spring training things of that nature,” said Lamar. “We have just implemented minor adjustments to keep them on track and disciplined.”
In one of the toughest regions in the state of Georgia, the Tigers have a couple of weak spots to fill in order to be the top contender. Even though 15 of 22 starters return from last season, the secondary and a few other spots on defense need to be filled quickly.
“They are looking good,” said Lamar. “We returned a veteran bunch and we have high expectations of them. We have great numbers going into workouts everyday and I am excited. We have a great group of kids who understand how to work. They will do anything you ask of them. They are a resilient bunch and they are extremely hard workers. They are a special group of kids.”
Returning for the season is LB Detric Dukes (UGA commit), NT Elisha Shaw (offers from multiple SEC and ACC programs), S/WR Kirk Tucker, S/ATH Dominick Sanders and S Devanta Reynolds. Collectively, the Tigers pull together to provide a impenetrable team. Each individual plays a major part to the team. From the freshmen to the seniors, each piece is important for the Tigers.
“Our entire group of 31 seniors are phenomenal leaders. All of my seniors are doing a great job,” said Lamar. ”Our ultimate goal is to win the state championship,” said Lamar.
Tucker will begin its season at Cedar Grove on Aug. 23.
