Walton defensive back Taquar Stewart is making waves. Walton has gone 22-7 since Taquar has been with the Raiders, and his defense has been impactful. So far he has 34 tackles, 25 solo, in just 10 games played. On top of that, he has two interceptions and a forced fumble. His defense has helped lead Walton to success on the field.

Additionally Taquar has also kept a 3.0 GPA in between football practice, games and workouts. He plans to join clubs in the spring once he has more free time.

“I’m not sure what clubs I want to do yet,” Taquar said. “I’m just trying to get involved with the school.”

Taquar’s work ethic will help any club have a successful, effective year.

Even as a junior in high school Taquar has an idea of what he would like to do for a living.

“I usually talk to my mom about sport management and being an orthopedic surgeon,” Taquar explained. “So I’ll have to take medical classes and pre-medicine and all that.”

When Taquar isn’t working hard on football or school work he is spending time with his family and working on himself as a person.

“I usually go to church on the weekends with my Mom,” Taquar said. He also runs track in the spring to stay in shape and to compete.

Walton and Taquar are currently locked in a tight Region 5-AAAAA race, which features six teams that have either one of two region losses. The Raiders (3-3, 2-1) have the week off before facing traditional rival Wheeler on Oct. 18.
