STATE PREVIEW: Wildcats head back on the road

While Colquitt County and Lowndes will butt heads in Moultrie, emerging Valdosta will travel to Douglas to face Coffee tonight. The No. 10 Cats are on the road for the second week in a row and will look to avoid the proverbial “hangover” after their astonishing comeback at arch-rival Lowndes last week. “The win over Lowndes is a big deal from a confidence standpoint,” Gillespie told the Valdosta Daily Times last Friday. “Of course, our season doesn’t end tonight. We’ve got to rebound from this on Monday. It’s great to have a region win, but we’ve got to go to work and get ready for Coffee next week.” … No. 4 Northside-WR will travel to Thomas County Central for a Region 1-AAAA showdown Friday night. While the Eagles are undefeated overall, TCC has just one loss – to Class AAAAA power Colquitt County in Week 2. Both squads come in 3-0 in region play. The winner of the game will be at least one game ahead of all other region teams. … “The Broocelli Jug” is up for grabs tonight when Columbus-area private schools Brookstone and Pacelli meet on the gridiron. On paper, it doesn’t look like much of a matchup as Brookstone sports a 6-1 record while Pacelli is still look for its first win. The Vikings have not won a game since the 2009 season finale and have not beaten the Cougars since 2004. … In Commerce, two programs going in opposite directions will have it out in a crucial Region 8-A contest. While Athens Academy started the season 3-0, they have not lost two of three and stand 1-2 in region play. Meanwhile, Commerce began the year 1-3, but is now 2-0 in region play. … The Macon Telegraph will debut its 2011 “Power 25,” a listing of the best 25 football teams in middle Georgia.
