Spartans travel to Lassiter for region clash

The football team lost to Walton in a region matchup last Friday, 42-28. Quarterback Tay Wright was 16-of-28 on the evening for 197 yards and three touchdown passes (to William Whitaker, James Ware and Kendall Caron). Running back Jerome Whiteman added a 49-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter, which pulled the Spartans to within one score, but Walton would score twice more after that to seal the victory. Wright also had two interceptions in the loss and was sacked three times. The loss drops Campbell to 1-2 on the year and 1-1 in Region 6-AAAAA. The Spartans travel to 2-1 (1-1) Lassiter on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. game. … The cross country teams competed in the Carrollton Invitational last Saturday. The boys finished 10th in the Class 5A section, and the girls finished seventh. For the girls, Sarah Pray finished fourth, and Jeri Wheeler took 10th. John White was the top performer for the boys, checking in at 40th.
