The football team will have its hands full this Friday, as the undefeated Westminster Wildcats come calling. Winless and coming off a bye week, head coach Ken Robinson’s team will try to improve on its defensive effort after being doubled-up by a solid Baylor (Tenn.) team last time out, losing 44-22. The game this Friday will be the initial region clash for both teams. … The softball team played in the Brookwood Invitational Tournament last week. The team had a rough go of it on Saturday, losing to East Coweta 6-0 before falling to Luella 2-1 in a nine-inning thriller. The week’s results evened the Lady Spartans’ record at 10-10, including a 3-2 region record. … The volleyball team is hitting its stride at the right time. The Lady Spartans won three regional games last Saturday without losing a game. The victories against Decatur, Paideia and Hebron Christian will give the team a confidence boost going into the Gwinnett County Championships, which begin on Thursday. The tournament begins for the Spartans with a match against Shiloh at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.
