Booker T. Washington (Fla.) 45, University School (Fla.) 17: Host University took an early 3-0 lead with an Andrew DiRicco 10-yard field goal, but Washington quarterback Treon Harris threw two touchdowns and ran for a score to give the Tornadoes a 21-3 halftime advantage. In the third quarter, Harris ran in his second score and tossed an 80-yard touchdown to Deltron Hopkins. University quarterback Sean White threw two scores to cut Washington’s lead to 35-17 heading into the final quarter. Harris continued the scoring outburst with a 3-yard touchdown run, marking his sixth score of the game. Jose Borregales added a 31-yard Washington field goal in the final two minutes.
North Gwinnett 34, Archer 32: Michael D’Angola hit a 27-yard field goal with nine seconds left to give visiting North Gwinnett the victory. North Gwinnett quarterback Hayden Sphire found Nate Brown on a 33-yard pass to the Archer 11-yard line to help set up the game-winning kick. Sphire was 17-of-29 for 220 yards and threw for touchdowns of 15 and 22 yards, both to Caleb Scott, who finished with nine receptions for 121 yards. Running back C.J. Leggett rushed 20 times for 163 yards and a 38-yard score. Dante Sawyer, usually a defensive lineman but frequently used as a goal-line quarterback for the Bulldogs, threw a 2-yard jump pass to Daniel Imatorbhebhe for a touchdown.
Spanish Fort (Ala.) 36, Jackson (Ala.) 6: Spanish Fort took a 30-0 lead before Jackson got on the board with a Demarcus Williams fourth-quarter touchdown. The Toros scored the only points of the opening quarter with an Alexander Theodore 33-yard field goal, and added two touchdowns in the second quarter. Tyler Johnson scored the first touchdown an 18-yard run and added a 9-yard score minutes later. Johnson scored for a third time to open the second half from five yards out and Javon Brown completed a 73-yard pass to Michael Howard for a touchdown to extend the lead to 30-0. Johnson tossed an 11-yard touchdown to Kevin Marion in the fourth quarter to end the scoring.
Stratford (S.C.) 30, South Florence (S.C.) 14: South Florence’s loss snapped a 12-game winning streak. South Florence, which was averaging 37.8 points per contest coming into the game, managed only to put 14 on the board against the Knights’ defense and was shut out in the second half. Stratford quarterback Jacob Park completed 4-of-9 passes for 124 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half to give the Knights its 24-14 halftime advantage.
Meridian (Miss.) 30, Brandon (Miss.) 28: Visiting Meridian relied on two J’Mar Smith touchdowns to knock defending Class 6A state champion Brandon out of the playoffs. Early in the fourth quarter, Smith hooked up with Tray Warren on a 49-yard touchdown pass that gave Meridian a 24-21 lead. Smith’s second touchdown was a 5-yard rushing touchdown with less than two minutes to go.
Maryville (Tenn.) 56, Sevier County (Tenn.) 14: Host Maryville sat star running backs Shawn Prevor and Jaylen Nickerson, but found plenty of offense in its 56-14 rout of the Smoky Bears. Maryville snapped Sevier County’s seven-game winning streak and defeated the Smokey Bears for the second time this season. The Rebels took a 49-14 lead into halftime and held Sevier County scoreless in the second half. Maryville has now won 13 games in a row, and this will be its 14th straight appearance in the semifinals.
