The Calhoun boys soccer team returned to the field after spring break and rain wiped away the last two weeks of action. Matt Rice’s Yellow Jackets played host to Morris Innovative High School Tuesday as the No. 2 team in the latest Score Class AA poll. Calhoun took out Morris Innovative 8-0 back on Mar. 19 and posted another shutout last night 7-0.
Sonic and Score were on hand before Tuesday’s game at the River Park Soccer Complex to recognize one special senior for his recent efforts on the pitch. Javier Medina was named the Sonic High School Player of the Week after scoring five goals on Mar. 19 and 21 in a pair of Calhoun victories. Medina netted a hat trick against Morris and then added two against Pepperell just two days later. Rice calls Medina “a pure finisher.” He added one goal last night in the 7-0 victory.
As Medina was presented with the award by Jon Land and his Sonic team from the 716 North Main store in Calhoun, teammates and spectators applauded the striker.
Congratulations to Javier. Sonic is a proud supporter of Georgia high school sports and will be on hand at events all this week, handing out awards for baseball, soccer and lacrosse.
