Softball eliminated in playoffs; volleyball enters state tournament

The softball team made believers out of everyone this season. The first-year GHSA team stunned the region by earning its way into the state playoffs by having a successful Region 5-A tournament run. The Lady Eagles came into the playoffs as the third seed. Even though they had an overall losing record, their 8-0 victory over Holy Innocents’ clinched them a spot in the playoffs. The team was eliminated in the North Sectional, defeating Fellowship Christian but losing to Trion and Wesleyan. … The football team, however, has not been as successful. The team dropped its second game this season to Hebron Christian, losing 28-3 on Oct. 10, moving its overall record to 0-7. Head coach Terrence Lott thinks the team is getting better. “We’re still trying to improve each week,” said Lott, “and I think our defense has improved over the last few weeks.” The Eagles will finish their first year against Mount Paran on Oct. 31. … The volleyball team earned a No. 4 seed in the state playoffs with a 16-11 regular-season record. The Lady Eagles will play their first-round game on Thursday.
