Softball bows out in first state tournament; football picks up first win

The softball team won its first-ever playoff game against Fellowship Christian 5-1. The win came in the losers bracket and advanced the team to the quarterfinals, where the Lady Eagles lost to Wesleyan 5-2. … The football team won its first game of the season in a 7-0 JV win against Jackson County. Running back Chas Collett scored the only touchdown of the game while the defense pitched a shutout. A.J. McCray-Nibbs led the defense with two of sacks. NCC’s first of two matchups against Mt. Paran produced a far different result as they were soundly defeated 44-0. … Erin McAnnally paced the girls cross country team with a 29th-place finish at the Carrollton Last Chance meet. The team came in 12th place overall. At the Region 5-A meet, McAnnally again finished as the top girl on the team, coming in at 28th, while the Lady Eagles finished seventh as a team. Cambree Rose turned in a 39th-place finish. For the boys, Andrew Edwards finished in 51st place overall. David White came in 53rd while M.D. Waters finished in 56th place.
