When Buford safety David Curry was young, his father, Buddy, taught him about football. And young David listened. David’s father, you see, was an NFL All-Pro linebacker with the Falcons.
But Buddy also taught his son something else about the game.
“He told me it isn’t everything,” said David, now an Elite Junior. “He taught me that school is first, family is second and football is third.”
David has taken his dad’s advice to heart. He carries a 3.0-plus cumulative GPA (depending on finals results) and is active off the field and outside the classroom. The Curry’s – Buddy, David and his two older brothers, Justin and Jessel – help out at Kid’s and Pro’s, a youth football camp for under-privileged youth between the ages of six and 14. In early December, the Curry’s travelled to Warner Robins, where they helped run a camp for local underprivileged kids. Over the summer, David helped at a camp at Grady High School in midtown through the YMCA. He also assisted a girls’ basketball camp at Grady.
“It helps me realize that I have it great,” said the youngest Curry. “It helps me remember to appreciate what I have.”
Curry balances his active life with charitable works, and, for that, he is truly a star.
What an awesome young man with values that we all should aspire to. He clearly has a high degree of maturity and sensitivity and the ethics to make all of us proud.
