SIGNING DAY: Bulldogs reload with strong class

Every year, fans flock to the Butts-Mehre building at UGA to get a grasp on who the Bulldogs are signing. This year was no different. Fans filled the Butts-Mehre’s third floor and anxiously watched to see what players would fax in their letters of intent. Between the large amount of media personnel at the event and the screens set up to show who has signed, it was easy to tell when someone had sent in their paperwork.

Georgia entered signing day with 17 commitments in the 2012 class and was in consideration for six other athletes. While the class contained 17 commits, the Bulldogs were only expecting 14 signatures. QB Faton Bauta, OL Mark Beard and RB Keith Marshall are already enrolled in at the school and had sent their LOIs upon enrolling. John Theus was the first recruit to send in his paperwork and his future teammates followed suit within the next couple of hours.

One reason the fans gather at the Butts-Mehre is to await the decisions of Georgia’s top targets. Fans were arriving bright and early to see where targets OL Brandon Greene, WR Ja’Quay Williams and WR Cordarrelle Patterson would sign. However, none of the three signed with UGA.

The disappointment could be felt in the building, but fans would soon have a reason to rejoice. Joshua Harvey-Clemons, a five-star linebacker out of Lowndes High School, committed to the Bulldogs over FSU, Florida and Miami. Harvey-Clemons is seen by some to be the best player in the state of Georgia and would be a huge addition to Mark Richt’s 2012 class. However, Harvey-Clemons has not yet sent his LOI, so Bulldog fans are waiting with bated breath to see if he sticks with UGA.

Another recruit fans were watching was Tucker DE Joshua Dawson. Dawson entered the day committed to Vanderbilt but had been feeling the heat from Georgia’s coaches. Dawson announced an hour after Harvey-Clemons, that he would be signing an LOI to play football at UGA. The last target on the board for Georgia was OL Avery Young, but Young ended up choosing Auburn over the Bulldogs.
