Sevens hosted a big tournament this past weekend at Morehouse College that featured top talent from across the country and some of the top teams. Local teams like Huncho Elite, Hustle Inc/City Reapers, and C1N are all based in Atlanta and participated in the event. Standout teams from across the country include Coastline, Defcon United, SFE, Fast Houston, Bless, Domo National, Raw Miami, and more. Several high-end former football players were in attendance like ED Reed, Jamal Lewis, Champ Bailey, and Cam Newton. Let’s take a look at the Georgia players who stood out this weekend.
Huncho Elite QB Prince “Mook” Aminu- Aminu is the next quarterback in line to take over at Woodward Academy and fans should be ecstatic with what he can bring to the table. He’s had a lot of buzz around him since his youth days, and rightfully so. He can throw the long ball with some of the best of them in the state. Aminu threw several dots this past weekend showcasing his elite arm talent, especially with the deep ball. In the red zone, he showcased an ability to thread the needle and fit the ball into tight windows. I think I was most impressed with his poise. It didn’t matter what the score was or if the game was coming down the stretch, he consistently delivered for his team and made plays.
Black Widow WR Madoxx Davis- Davis made several impressive plays this weekend at Morehouse. Some counted and a couple of them didn’t. I think the best one I’ve seen was a one-handed catch in traffic where he nearly dragged his feet for the catch. Throughout Black Widow’s run in the tournament, he displayed what makes him special which is his speed in the open space and his ability to make contested catches over anybody. Davis is only the class of 2028 WR and has a ton of upside on the gridiron. He could be the next great receiver to come through the Cartersville pipeline. He will suit up for them this fall.
Hustle Inc QB CJ Cypher- Another elite quarterback is coming through the pipeline for the Carrollton Trojans in CJ Cypher. He was instrumental in helping seal another 7 on 7 championship victory for Hustle Inc. and its founder Tony Ballard. He threw several touchdown passes that led Hustle Inc to a victory and a 15U championship. What catches your eye when you watch him, is his feel for the game. He already sees it at an advanced level. You only get four seconds to throw in 7 on 7, but Cypher scans the field and goes through his progressions quickly, always making the right play. To be so young and have that ability says a lot. Cypher is already 6’0 and has more room to grow in his career as he gets stronger and faster. He definitely will be a prospect to watch in the 2029 class.
Hustle Inc DB Jontavius Wyman- Wyman continues to impress every time I see him. I think the biggest difference now is that he is a more polished product. You can tell he is seeing the game at a different level. Throughout the weekend, the Georgia commit had interceptions and pass breakups. Even in the rare time he was beaten, Wyman was still in an excellent position to make a play on the ball. His technique has continued to get better and he knows how to use leverage and his closing speed to make a play on the ball. It’s crazy to think he played 7 on 7 on Saturday and then left to go play a basketball game and helped lead his team to victory on the hardwood, advancing to the Elite 8. Wyman is the true definition of an athlete, and any program would be lucky to have him at the next level.
C1N WR Devin Carter- The Auburn commit went off this weekend for C1N. Whether it was the long ball or across the middle of the field, Carter was making the defense pay. He put up several highlight reel catches and was unstoppable in critical moments. He also did a lot of damage in the red zone area coming down with contested catches over defenders and showing how elite his catch radius is. C1N lost a thriller to Defcon United in the semifinals, which ultimately decided who made the championship game. Nonetheless, Carter put on a show and displayed why Douglas County is a contender once again this year in 6A.
SFE Nasir McCoy- He played defensive back for SFE and was one of the standout defensive backs from Buford on the team. SFE also had Tyriq Green, another highly coveted player here in the peach state. McCoy made a play that stands out in my mind. He came up to take away a crossing route. Then he backpedalled all the way back to come down with an easy interception as he completely fooled the quarterback. The four-star prospect is a heavily recruited player and you can see why with how he plays coverage never giving a beat on what he is doing. He has the tools to be great at the next level, and possesses great coverage skills that can turn him into an impact player. That was apparent this weekend as McCoy led SFE to the semifinals.
