Second half defensive shutout sets up 21-point victory

The football team is looking as good as any in Class 3A, after handily beating Greater Atlanta Christian 31-10 on the road last Friday. The first half was highlighted by a 59-yard pass from P.G. Standard to Matt Pierce for a touchdown, but the Golden Lions went into the half tied at 10-10. In the third quarter, Brian Gee became an unlikely hero when he blocked punts on consecutive third-quarter possessions for Pius, both of which resulted in touchdowns to put the game away. The first block led to a Cole Moon 1-yard touchdown run, and the second resulted in a Moon touchdown run from seven yards out. … The boys cross country team finished eigth overall at the Berry Invitational. Trey Ellis finished fifth overall with a time of 17:00. Michael O’Leary was the next Golden Lion to cross the finish line with a time of 18:15. … The softball team had the week off, but returns on Wednesday when it hosts Forsyth Central at 5:30 p.m. The team then travels to Carver on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
